The Covid-19 pandemic happened, and I needed something to keep my mind and my time occupied in order to not succumb to crippling worry. I also finally retired my old boots, got new Docs and realized I wanted a plethora of laces to switch out at will.

Cue Kumihimo braiding.

Not only did I decide I was going to braid the laces, I decided I wanted to make my own braiding table on which to do so. Thankfully, wonderful people had already done the work of designing the 3D file, and all I needed to do was to print it. Printing with PLA filament that was then primed, sanded and polished to a smooth finish, it was the gift to myself that would see me starting to explore the ins and outs of my Ender -3 3D-printer prior to resuming the rigour of my work later in the fall. It was a fantastic process with beautiful, sturdy results.
